Postive Mindset for work at home moms!

I like to start off by sharing an analogy with you, my husband is a pilot, and I get extremely nervous flying.  However, due to him being a pilot he has shared with me tips on what to focus on to help alleviate my fears of what’s going on during the flight.  One particular is that even though the plane has a clear path, it is always course correcting 90% of the time.   I like this analogy because being an entrepreneur we are always course correcting.   When the network marketing company I am with now first launched, we weren’t provided with a lot of tools for our business or even tools to help our teams get off to a great start.  As you can imagine, that was kind of a rough start, especially when you’re launching with over 150 team members.   I had to remain focused and navigate many obstacles.  I had to quickly learn the back office and provide solutions for my team.   Instead of focusing on the negative and complaining I went into solution mode.  As entrepreneurs we are constantly course correcting our paths so we need to remember to always remain in solution mode for our teams.

It’s been said that humans have between 12,000 and 70,000 thoughts per day. The actual number doesn’t matter, but it’s important to recognize that around 95 percent of today’s thoughts are the same ones we had

yesterday and most of the time, they are not always positive. Want to know a little fact?  Our thoughts create our reality.  This means that unconsciously, we’re all feeding ourselves the same, inaccurate, boring, hurtful information over and over again. It’s like playing the same song on repeat on iTunes.  No one wants to hear the same song on repeat day in and day out.  So we need to learn how to flip our thoughts from negative to positive.

If we don’t course correct our thoughts or better yet flip the switch, our minds will focus on two things:

1. How we did everything wrong in the past.

2. How it will all play out.

Neither of which have any relevance or are useful to us.

Basically our minds want something to do and want to keep us out of the present and out of the positive which is why it’s so important that you begin to flip the switch today.

Two books I highly recommend that were life changing for me are:

“The Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks and “Choose yourself” by James Alutcher.  These two books are life changing and will help you not only while you’re course correcting in your business and life but help you flip the switch from negative thoughts to positive.

Beyond those two book recommendations, I recommend these 5 Tips to help you stay in a positive mindset while working from home:

  1. Know your why.  It sounds simple enough, right?  It is and it isn’t.  This is something you need to dive deep inside and reflect on what it is that made you decide to open the business that lights you up.   Your big WHY or your motivation is the true driving force behind your life and it will be what propels your business forward. People who love their lives and build their business by starting with their personal motivation possess the ability to sustain their own success, inspire others around them, and distinguish themselves from everybody else.  Knowing your why is an important step in figuring out how to achieve the goals that excite you and create a life you enjoy living. It is only when you know your ‘why’ will you find the courage to take the risks needed to get ahead, stay motivated when the chips are down, and move your life onto an entirely new, more challenging, and more rewarding trajectory. Your motivational WHY makes life and the business building process more enjoyable and is a force that makes miracles possible. It’s all about staying true to yourself and connected to your desires. Those who start with “the why” live an inspired life and have the ability to inspire those around them. Your WHY is not something that is outside of you that you need to go out and seek to find through any type of external validation. Your WHY is etched into your heart and soul. It is your reason for being and your reason for all that you do in your business. Your WHY is what you will constantly, and most likely daily, be what you will refer back to because it is the driver of the decisions you make.Take some moments now and dive deep, reflect on what is important to you, what made you decide to open up your business?
  2. Goals – Have a clear vision for your goals with your business.  Utilize a vision board, and have it within sight.  Something that you will see daily.  What this does it creates muscle memory, creating positive thoughts and sending positive vibrations out into the universe and when you’re ready to receive it will happen.  The phrase “Thoughts become things” is something I live by.   You have the power of over your own thoughts.   Having a clear vision of your goals will help you focus.   Take a few moments now and write down your goals.  You can start with small achievable goals to achieve within the next 30, 60, and 90 days.
  3. Journal–  This is not the “Dear Diary” journal entries we had when we were little, this is the grown woman’s journal.  This is where I allow complete stream of consciousness to flow, where I write anything I’m frustrated with, grateful for, mostly being present with whatever comes up for me. Again, all of this continues to create the space for NEW ideas to open up and where I allow myself to tap into new levels of consciousness. Creativity is allowing yourself to receive the guidance that is there for you. It is in this space that what before you didn’t see is all of the sudden clear. Definitely get out any personal or professional frustrations, and write as long as you need to…1 page, 5 pages, it doesn’t matter, the point here is to give yourself the gift of being with yourself exactly where you are. It’s amazing how much clarity, forgiveness, and processing we can accomplish as women, with a little bit of journaling time.  As women and as entrepreneurs, we tend to constantly focus on what else we have to do and what we’ve not accomplished, so be sure to honor and celebrate and at minimum acknowledge your accomplishments.  Take a moment and write down some thoughts that come to you, things you are grateful for, things that frustrate you, things that inspire you…
  4. Time Management –  Yes, truly, time management is one area to focus on to help you remain in a positive mindset!  Time management is key for helping us and our mindset.  One of the things that can happen when there are a lot of moving parts to life and business is that you can end up spending much of your time and energy on areas that are not that important in generating forward movement. Ultimately, these not so important activities are serving as major distractions for you.  Scrolling Facebook too much?  There’s an app you can download to help limit your time spent on non-income producing activities.  As an entrepreneur there will be a lot on your plate at times and it will be important to remain focused on your most desired outcomes both personally and professionally. Knowing what is a priority will serve you well in where you focus your own time and what you delegate to others. As an entrepreneur, you will have more opportunity and freedom to set your own priorities for business and focus on what is truly important to you. You will have the freedom to structure your business to accommodate your personal priorities and grant yourself the freedom to focus on what you truly desire. What I’ve found actually gives me more freedom is having a schedule that safeguards my time. Again, we of course are entrepreneurs, and projects and tasks tend to vary, however, creating a solid, weekly schedule actually keeps you ahead of the game vs. floating aimlessly through the week.  Take some time to plan your week, don’t forget to block time for already booked appointments and family time!
  5. Finally my 5th, tip on staying positive is maintain positive thinking by ignoring mind clutter…  Sounds simple enough, right?   One of the tricks that forever changed my life, that I learned from the book ” Choose Yourself “by James Altucher, was to learn how to Ignore mind clutter – How did I do that?  I just flipped the switch basically thinking is this useful is this serving my business and or personal life?  If not, then I let it go.   That’s it!  Seriously, let. it. go…. Any Elsa fans out there?  Try singing “let it go” when things are really negative to move you into light and positive thoughts.   Maybe you’re seeing success of other leaders within your industry and jealousy is creeping up/and or you’re comparing yourself to others, just turn that around, flip the switch and let that be proof of what you can really achieve.   Seeing what’s truly possible for you. There is NO competition, there is more than enough clients for everyone.   Just be ok with where you are now and know that it will happen for you as well. Remind your team that there is plenty of opportunity both for customers and potential team members.  A great tool that I have used to help with positive thinking would be utilizing positive affirmations.  Positive affirmations are just love notes to yourself speaking in present tense of things you want your life to look like.  Write a few down on post-it-notes and leave them on your bathroom mirror to see first thing when you wake up.  If you start your day with positive thoughts it will only bring great things your way!

These are just a few of my tips to remain in a positive mindset while working from home.  Hope these have provided some value to you. If you’ve found value, please leave me a comment on what you do to remain in a positive mindset or if these have helped you in some way, I’d love to hear it!
